Cara Tolmie’s practice spans performance, video, music, text and spoken word. For Description 5, Tolmie exhibits work from her solo exhibition at Dundee Contemporary Art (2011), Read Thou Art And Read Thou Shalt Remain, featuring work (Description 1 and 2) in which an analysis of the various elements within a short film clip forms the the basis for a structured narrative. This narrative is played out in a constructed minature environment in the film Chronicle, and further developed into a performance for Description 3. Her solo exhibition at Supplement includes a subsequent re-configuration of this narrative in the form of a second video work featuring elements from the previous descriptions.
Cara Tolmie was born in Glasgow in 1984 and is a graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee. She is also a former committee member of Glasgow’s Transmission Gallery and recently undertook the LUX Artists Associate Programme.
