Jack Vickridge

13 January - 10 February 2018
Private View: 6-9pm Friday 12th January 2018

Supplement is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Jack Vickridge. Vickridge’s practice primarily focuses on printmaking and sculpture. His on-going concerns are rooted in the exploration of composition, form and the tactile physical qualities of materials and processes. He has developed a visual language and an approach which utilises a freedom of production and allows his works to each form their own internal logic.

The exhibition focuses upon Vickridge’s concrete sculptural works, displayed in the gallery as an installation across the walls and the floor of the space, responding to its architecture. The presentation creates spatial relationships between the different works expressed as rhythms of scale, volume and colour.

Vickridge chooses to work with concrete, an industrial and architectural material, left natural or coloured with oxidising pigment dyes of red, black and ochre. He trades the original function of concrete for a more visual purpose, interperating the world through a material language.

The works have formal sculptural qualities yet retain a playfulness in their exploration of shape and volume. They feature apertures and negative space within their forms, the presence of which suggests a resonant space and airflow. In this sense the sculptures can be thought of as ambient vessels.
